11 Lodging Safety Tips

These eleven tips from Marriott Hotels will help business travelers stay alert and practice safe habits while staying at a hotel.

  1. Do not answer the door in a hotel room without verifying the identity of the person at the door. If the person claims to be an employee, call the front desk and ask if someone from the staff is supposed to have access to your room.
  2. When returning to your hotel late in the evening, use the main entrance. Look around before entering parking lots.
  3. Close the door securely and use all provided locking devices whenever you are in your room.
  4. Do not needlessly display guest room keys in public or leave them on restaurant tables, at the swimming pool, or other places where they can be stolen.
  5. Do not draw attention to yourself by displaying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry.
  6. Do not invite strangers to your room.
  7. Place all valuables in a safe deposit box (front desk or in-room).
  8. Do not leave valuables in your vehicle.
  9. Verify that any sliding glass doors or windows, as well as any connecting doors to other units, are securely locked.
  10. If you see suspicious activity, report your observations to hotel management.
  11. Upon arrival, notify the front desk if you require special assistance in the event of an emergency
